| We take pictures at special occasions. We hang certificates of accomplishment on our walls. We clip out our name when mentioned in the newspaper. These are often the highlights by which we recall and frame our multifaceted lives. Inevitably, however, seemingly insignificant activities make up the structure of our days and no formal documentation is recorded. I endear the ephemeral remnants of living in American culture; I question the performance of everyday and how personal priorities coincide with time spent. Researching the language, hourly framework, and societal expectations of my immediate communities, I am intrigued by how humans often practice an unconscious participation with the world. While taking part in contemporary culture, I embrace the everydayness-of-being and sort personal observations of forgettable moments, behavioral habits, and gratuitous dialogue. My artworks honor the residue of ordinary days. For many, such common days compose life. | home | artist statement | bio | resume | contact | Thistle Works | |
